Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 Is Too Restrained: Black Manta Adds 14 Inches to Fix It

Wide carbon-fiber Corvette ZR1 with a manual transmission heads to auction

This Corvette with a carbon-fiber body is about 14 inches wider at the rear than a standard Corvette. It is powered by an LS9 V8 engine producing over 630 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission. The car will be auctioned in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Mecum event in September.

For many years, the Corvette ZR1 played in an overly restrained sandbox. Sure, it was technologically far superior to the base Corvette, but visually, it didn’t stand out much. The person who ordered this specimen clearly hated this very trait. Before us is a ‘Vette with its own full carbon-fiber body kit and all the necessary equipment to back up its striking appearance. Most importantly, it has the 638-horsepower (476 kW) LS9 V8 engine and a manual transmission.

Design inspired by video games

This 2010 ZR1, heading to Mecum Nashville 2026, looks less like a Chevrolet creation and more like a manifestation of the game Need for Speed Underground. Obviously, that was the goal. Just look at how low and wide this ‘Black Manta’ sits on the road.

More: A Corvette that forgot it was a Corvette just sold for nearly the price of a new C8.

According to the auction description, the car was built in collaboration with Gi Automotive Group and Car Porn Racing. The result is a monster with a carbon-fiber body that is reportedly 12 inches wider at the front and a staggering 14 inches wider at the rear than a standard C6.

Technical equipment and power

Under all this carbon fiber lies a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 engine, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. From the factory, the LS9 produced 638 hp (476 kW) and 604 lb-ft (819 Nm) of torque, making it one of the most impressive engines GM had ever put into a production car at the time.

The description does not mention any additional power upgrades, but with an Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump already installed, it wouldn’t be surprising if there was even more hiding under the hood. The suspension also looks serious. There are LG coilovers, Pfadt sway bars, and massive 20×13-inch DPE wheels tucked under the bulging rear fenders. It all gives the impression of a project from a late-2000s SEMA show, but with drivability rarely seen at shows.

Condition and mileage

At the time of listing, the car’s mileage stands at 15,810 miles. Interestingly, the dashboard shows the Check Engine and TPMS indicators lit up; however, the auction notes do not mention any issues with the car. Perhaps it was just in accessory mode at the time of the photoshoot. Realistically, regardless of these lights, this car will turn heads whether it’s running or just sitting still.

This Corvette ZR1 is a striking example of how a custom tuning shop can transform a production car into a true work of art and engineering. The combination of a carbon-fiber body, significantly widened wheel arches, and the powerful LS9 engine makes it not just a collectible, but also a car capable of delivering an unforgettable driving experience. Despite minor caveats about the dashboard indicators, this lot will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the September Mecum auction in Nashville, attracting the attention of both collectors and extreme tuning enthusiasts.
