The world of SUVs is full of familiar faces dressed in new clothes, and few models have inspired as many design changes as the . In recent years, it has become a template for numerous SUVs, especially in China, where automakers continue to actively use its boxy, off-road lines. The latest clone from Geely – the Galaxy Battleship, aimed at off-road technology with an electric powertrain, was unveiled in prototype form at the .
Additionally:
Geely officially calls it the “Galaxy Cruiser”, but its Chinese name translates to “Galaxy Battleship”, a name that, it must be admitted, has more style. According to the company, the design combines “Eastern aesthetics” with “Chinese elements”, although the visual steps from the Land Rover Defender are hard to miss. Features include round LED headlight graphics, side-mounted accessory mounts, and a rugged front bumper with very familiar proportions.
Influences, Both Inside and Out
From the side, the Galaxy Battleship follows an increasingly common formula of rugged SUVs flooding the Chinese market. It is visually consistent with competitors such as and vehicles from BAIC, Haval, and Chery Jetour. At the rear, the vertical tailgate design features vertically stacked Volvo-style taillights, as well as a roof spoiler and an externally mounted spare tire.
Geely has not yet released specific dimensions, but the Galaxy Battleship, judging by its appearance, indicates it belongs to the same size class as the , suggesting a robust mid or large size aimed at serious off-roading.
Interior Technology Adds Camping Utility
Step inside and you’ll see a freestanding multimedia display alongside a separate set of digital instruments on the passenger side, labeled as an “exploration kit”. A floating center console contains what Geely calls an “off-road command island”, a yacht-inspired center for functions aimed at the terrain.
A multi-functional table in the rear with integrated storage compartments and a large bed that unfolds inside the cabin make the Geely Galaxy Battleship an ideal companion for . Furthermore, thanks to the Geely Satellite Network, the SUV will remain connected even in remote areas.
Artificial Intelligence For Off-Roading
Geely hasn’t revealed much about the specifics of the Galaxy Battleship’s electric powertrain yet, but has stated that the SUV uses an artificial intelligence-supported system to switch between electric, , and extended-range modes. This system also automatically adapts to various road surfaces and driving scenarios.
The intelligent all-wheel-drive system continuously adjusts torque to each wheel for optimal traction. As a result, the Galaxy Battleship can perform a range of advanced tricks, including crab walking, 360-degree tank turns, drifting, and even driving on a flat tire.
Additionally:
For off-road adventures that involve water, or perhaps just a slow cruise along the coast, Geely says the Galaxy Battleship can float for up to two hours, reaching speeds of over 8.5 km/h (4.6 knots). It is also equipped with radar for crossing bodies of water and sonar to aid in safer navigation of rivers. And on land, the company claims the SUV has undergone “washboard road” testing at a record speed of 80 km/h (50 mph), although this number has not yet been independently verified.
We still don’t know the battery capacity or electric range, but the car is equipped with Geely’s Golden Short Blade Battery. The company says it is protected by an armored coating and materials designed to resist deformation, fire, and explosions.
Regarding availability, Geely has not yet announced a production start date. The Galaxy Battleship is likely to be launched first in , with the potential to open to selected international markets.
