BMW Speedtop: An exclusive car that was sold out within days

In May, BMW presented the stunning Speedtop, which became a real sensation. Against the backdrop of widespread criticism of the design of the brand’s new models, this car proved that the company’s engineers are still capable of creating true masterpieces. The demand for it turned out to be so high that all planned units were sold almost instantly.

BMW CEO Oliver Zipse confirmed that all 70 units of the Speedtop were bought up immediately after the presentation on Lake Como. Although the official price was not disclosed, he noted that the car was in a “previously unattainable price range for BMW”. According to estimates, the cost started from 500,000 euros.

Technical features and future projects

Under the hood of the Speedtop is a 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 with 617 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. Externally, it resembles a four-seater car, but in reality, it is a two-seater model created for “weekend getaways”. The rear part of the cabin has been converted into a luxurious luggage compartment with leather upholstery and branded suitcases from the Italian company Schedoni.

The success of the Speedtop paves the way for new limited series. Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of BMW M, reported that the division has received the green light to develop its own exclusive car, similar to the Skytop and Speedtop. This could mean the emergence of even more daring and expensive models in the future.

The quick sale of all Speedtop units confirms that the market is ready for high-budget limited series. BMW seems to have found the perfect balance between exclusivity, design, and technology, allowing it to compete with the world’s most prestigious car manufacturers.
