Every Driver Has This Thing in Their Car, But Fewer and Fewer People Use It

The Number of Drivers Willing to Pay for Connected Car Services is Decreasing

Car manufacturers often advertise new models with advanced connected features, but research shows that many drivers are not willing to pay for them. After the free trial period ends (usually 1-3 years), only 68% of users continue their subscription, which is even less than in 2024.

Geographical Differences in Service Usage

In the USA, 35% of drivers pay for connected services, while 19% are on a free trial period. However, in countries like China, South Korea, and India, the number of active users is significantly higher due to a large share of free trial subscriptions. In Europe, Japan, and Brazil, many drivers do not use these features at all.

One of the key arguments against subscriptions is the availability of similar features on a smartphone. Why pay twice for something you already have?

Drivers also express concerns about data privacy. Automakers have already faced legal problems due to data collection, which adds distrust to such services.

Although satisfaction among users remains at an acceptable level, companies counting on significant revenue from subscriptions will have to make more effort to attract customers. Perhaps it is worth reconsidering the approaches to monetizing these services to make them more attractive to end consumers.
