Torque at the wheels of the Hennessey Demon 1700 exceeds the Bugatti Chiron’s figures at the crankshaft

Hennessey has unveiled the most powerful Dodge Demon 1700

Hennessey Performance Engineering, a company known for its extreme tuning projects, has finally completed work on the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 1700. This car, first announced back in 2024, got its name from its 1700 horsepower at the crankshaft. After a long wait and preliminary engine tests, the engineers have presented the finished result, which impresses even the most experienced enthusiasts.

Impressive chassis dyno figures

Last year, Hennessey demonstrated engine testing on a dyno, proving the project was not just a marketing move. Now we see the final version of the car. In a new video, chief powertrain specialist Jason Haines discusses the team’s challenges and achievements. The engine test confirmed the powerplant is capable of producing 1700 hp (1268 kW). The new chassis dyno test gives an idea of the power owners will get at the wheels.

Specifically, the car delivers 1355 horsepower (1010 kW) and 1202 lb-ft (1630 Nm) of torque at the rear wheels. For comparison, the Bugatti Chiron has factory figures of 1479 hp (1500 hp / 1103 kW) and 1180 lb-ft (1600 Nm) at the crankshaft, which is a significantly ‘softer’ method of measurement.

Technical features and future plans

Achieving these figures required serious upgrades, including dual Precision PT6870 turbochargers, new injectors, steel bypass valves and blow-off valves, a high-flow stainless steel exhaust system, custom pipes, a dual intercooler intake system, and a fully integrated oil delivery system. Drivers will also need to use E85 fuel to access the full 23 psi of boost.

It is worth noting that some questions remain open. Hennessey clearly stated in 2024 that they want the Demon 1700 to run the quarter mile in under 8 seconds. Specifically, the company targeted a time of 7.9 seconds at a speed of 175-180 mph (281-289 km/h). There is no official information yet on whether this car can achieve that mark. However, knowing Hennessey, if it happens, we will certainly see it on video in the near future.

This project demonstrates how far modern tuning shops can go in their pursuit of ultimate power. The comparison with the Bugatti Chiron, one of the fastest production cars in the world, underscores that the Demon 1700 is not just a modified muscle car, but a true technological marvel. All that remains is to wait for the actual drag strip runs to see if this car can live up to all expectations and become one of the fastest road-legal production cars.
