California Highway Patrol mocked the owner of an Audi e-tron GT who ran out of charge
The California Highway Patrol, Truckee division, is known for its sense of humor. This time, they joked about the owner of an Audi e-tron GT electric car who found himself in an awkward situation.
The driver used up all the battery charge on the highway and was forced to stop on the shoulder. Instead of calling a tow truck to deliver the car to the nearest charging station, he decided to use a generator for a slow recharge.
Review: The feeling of driving the 2026 Audi RS e-Tron GT Performance is like falling into a black hole
This approach proved far from ideal. The troopers jokingly noted:
«Thoughts and prayers won’t add miles to your battery… but luckily, they brought their own generator».
They also published a photo of the incident accompanied by Bon Jovi’s song ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’.
Tips for electric vehicle drivers in mountainous areas
On a more serious note, the police reminded that «driving in the mountains, elevation changes, and high speeds can drain an electric car’s battery much faster than expected». They urge travelers to plan their route in advance, charge their vehicle, and leave a small range reserve. If these tips are not followed, one could end up in this driver’s situation and have an «unscheduled stop on the shoulder».
2026 Audi e-tron GT specifications
The 2026 Audi S e-tron GT starts at a price of $127,700. It is equipped with a 105 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing up to 670 hp (500 kW / 679 PS). This allows the model to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 152 mph (245 km/h).
The range is up to 300 miles (483 km). This proved insufficient for this driver, but the 320 kW DC fast charging technology allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
Audi also offers a more powerful RS e-tron GT Performance version for $170,500. It has 912 hp (680 kW / 925 PS) and accelerates to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.4 seconds. However, the range decreases to 278 miles (447 km).
This incident clearly demonstrates that even the most expensive and technologically advanced electric vehicles are not immune to surprises, especially in challenging road conditions. Drivers should plan their trips more carefully, taking into account the terrain and possible delays. Although modern electric cars offer impressive speed and power figures, the issue of charging station infrastructure and real-world range under different conditions remains relevant. The police humor in this situation is another way to draw attention to the importance of preparation for long-distance travel on electric power.
