Japanese tuning ateliers are already actively preparing their projects for the 2026 auto salon in Tokyo, and Kuhl Racing has not stood aside. The company, known for its vibrant wide-body kits, has introduced a new development intended for series production: a raised sports car capable of overcoming off-road terrain.
Basis and Concept
The Kuhl Outroad model is based on the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ. It can be considered an affordable alternative to the Porsche 911 Dakar or Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, created for those who dream of off-road adventures but lack the budget for a supercar or private dunes for driving.
Design and Functionality
Teaser images and 3D models showcase updated front and rear bumpers with larger air intakes and integrated skid plates. Wheel arch extensions in the style of off-roaders have also been added, allowing for the installation of more massive tires, and sharp roof rails that add a crossover look, although their practical function is not yet clear.
Despite the reinforced features, the visual dynamics remain characteristic of Kuhl. The pronounced front, side, and rear spoilers may limit approach angles, but they emphasize the car’s aggressive stance along with the headlight covers and vented hood, giving it a sharp, racing look.
Key Details
The rear section draws particular attention, where louvers are installed on the rear window and a spoiler in the shape of a ducktail. Kuhl admits that these elements are inspired by the “Mad Max” films.
Suspension and Chassis
Although the renders depict the standard ground clearance of the GR86 and BRZ, Kuhl plans serious updates. The installation of a hydraulic suspension with adjustable height is expected, which will increase the ground clearance by 30–45 mm. This will be complemented by improved brakes and custom 18-inch Verz Wheels with off-road tires, reminiscent of the GR86 Shooting Brake Crossover concept by digital artist Sugar Chow.
Technical Features
No updates to the naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine have been reported yet, which in its standard form produces 232 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Both Toyota and Subaru offer a choice between manual and automatic transmissions.
Future Plans
Kuhl intends to publish additional renderings this month, and the first Kuhl Outroad Light Style prototype is planned to be presented by the end of November. The finished demonstration car will debut at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon before sales begin in Japan.
