The legendary DeLorean DMC-12 from 1981, which gained worldwide fame after appearing in the film Back to the Future, was sold at a British auction for £38,333. That is approximately $52,000. Iconic Auctioneers reports this.
The car stands out for its low mileage. Only 16,426 miles are recorded on the odometer, which corresponds to approximately 26,440 km. For a 45-year-old sports car, this is a rather modest figure.
DeLorean DMC-12 has retained its original engine and body
The example put up for auction was manufactured in 1981. The car features the signature unpainted stainless steel body panels and characteristic gull-wing doors, which became one of the model’s main features.
Under the hood is a 2.85-liter gasoline V6, located behind the cabin. It is paired with the factory automatic transmission. The car has also retained its original gray leather interior.
The auction DeLorean received a number of updates
The car has been in the UK since 2015. During this time, its mileage increased by less than 1,700 miles, or approximately 2,650 km.
The owner carried out a number of preventive works. The car had its fuel pump and fuel accumulator, alternator, drive belts, front suspension springs, door gas struts, brake calipers, and seals replaced. A new stainless steel coolant expansion tank was also installed.
The DeLorean DMC-12 was produced in Northern Ireland and became one of the most famous cars of the 1980s. Despite a relatively short production run, the model retains high interest among collectors thanks to its recognizable design and iconic status in automotive and film history.
