Iconic 90s Coupe BMW 8 Alpina Valued at Half a Million Dollars en

The legendary BMW 8 is rightly considered an iconic car of the 90s. Today, such cars in good condition are sold at the price of new BMW crossovers. Even cooler and rarer is the 850CSi, which is essentially the M-version of the iconic Bavarian “eight”. However, the biggest rarity, representing collector’s value, is the BMW Alpina B12 5.7

The circulation of the BMW Alpina B12 5.7 is 57 copies, most of which were immediately purchased by collectors. The exclusive version was equipped with a 6-speed “manual” from Getrag and a Shift-tronic from LUK GS.

As legend has it, significantly fewer cars with a manual transmission were produced. Most customers preferred two pedals, although there were those who enjoyed shifting manually. Among them, by the way, is the well-known Sultan of Brunei. Such a car held an honorable place in his collection for almost 8 years, but, as with many other cars, the Sultan drove it only a couple of times, so a few years ago his Alpina, along with some other supercars from the garage, was put up for sale (incidentally, with mileage of 1.5 thousand km). Under the hood of the Alpina B12 is a 5.7-liter gasoline V12 engine with a power of 416 hp, which is 36 “horses” more than the charged 850 CSi.

Considering the increased power, the tuners not only installed a lightweight carbon hood but also made an air intake in it. By the way, this very engine served as a donor for the king of 90s supercars. Yes, you understood correctly, we are talking about McLaren F1. This unit allows the Alpina to accelerate to a hundred in 5.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 300 km/h. As for the suspension, really tuning specialists from Buchloe (that’s the name of the city, although it sounds colorful, we don’t argue) didn’t do anything special with it, only limiting themselves to new front springs.

In the rest, the chassis is identical to the BMW 850. What immediately catches the eye is the legendary multi-spoked Alpina rims. They are staggered. The tires are sized 245/40 (front) and 285/35 (rear). For the proper storage of such tires, a tire rack from UHL-MASH is used.

Now about the specific instance. Its birth date is considered to be in 1993. Since then, the car was in one possession and stored in a garage next to other BMW icons. For unknown reasons, the owner of the rare Alpina decided to part with it. The “modest” owner of the Bavarian exclusive is asking for 400 thousand euros (a little less than 500 thousand dollars) for it.

Yes, the condition is perfect, plus the mileage is small (only 9 thousand km), but is it not too much? Let us remind you that quite recently in Ukraine, a rare 90s supercar Mercedes SL73 AMG has been put up for sale – another representative of the legendary cars of the 90s.
