Company Abt Sportsline, well-known for its passion for modifying Audis, has presented an incredible novelty — the Ur-Quattro, a replica of the iconic 1980 Audi Quattro. Yes, exactly the one that once revolutionized the idea of production all-wheel-drive cars and won the hearts of rally fans.
But don’t think this is just another restomod. Abt decided to create not just a copy, but a true work of modern art on wheels. All 30 units of the Ur-Quattro were already sold out before the premiere, and each one is assembled by hand.
Externally, the new Ur-Quattro conveys the spirit of the 80s, but without any old metal. All body panels are made from lightweight composite materials, including carbon fiber, and the grille and headlights are borrowed from the rare Sport Quattro, which was produced in a run of just 214 units in its time. The interior hides a steel safety cage — it’s not visible as it is neatly covered by the trim.
Under the hood is a modern 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engine producing 530 horsepower. That’s almost three times more than the original Audi Quattro, which is now 45 years old. Abt has not yet revealed technical details about the chassis, nor has it shown the interior. The cost of each car can only be guessed at, but given the scale of the work, it’s definitely several hundred thousand euros.
The original Audi Quattro was produced from 1980 to 1991, and a total of 11,452 units were made. It was one of the first production passenger cars with permanent all-wheel drive and a center differential, which laid the foundation for the brand’s future rally success.
The Abt Ur-Quattro is not just a return of a legend, but a new take on a classic, combining history with the most modern technology. You definitely won’t see such cars every day, but each unit is a symbol of style, power, and engineering mastery.
