In the American hinterland (state of Virginia), an abandoned Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing was discovered. The legendary Mercedes sports car stood in an old barn for half a century.
The car belonged to a lawyer and was not driven after his death in 1968. No one knew about the car, as the owner never told anyone about it. Amazingly, even his relatives had never heard of the Gullwing.
The Mercedes 300SL, of course, is covered in a layer of dust and needs some work. But overall, it is well preserved, and its mileage is only 56,000 km. It’s not surprising that it was sold for 1.8 million dollars.
Let us recall that the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing is the first car in the world with direct fuel injection. Its three-liter inline-six developed 215 horsepower and allowed a top speed of 245 km/h.
A total of only 1,400 coupes were produced from 1954 to 1957.
