Leapmotor has unveiled its new flagship, the D19 SUV, releasing images and preliminary technical specifications before its market launch next year. Below are all the official details and photos.
Expanding the Model Range
Leapmotor, a Chinese EV manufacturer partially owned by Stellantis, continues to expand its model range into new segments. After debuting the B05 / Lafa 5 hatchback at the Munich Auto Show last month, the company has introduced a new flagship SUV.
Named the D19, this full-size model is set to go on sale in China in the first half of 2026, promising premium comfort and cutting-edge technology at a price aimed at a broad audience.
The Power of the Large SUV
The design of the new model is modern but somewhat generic, its proportions matching other full-size electric SUVs from China, such as the Li Auto L9, Dongfeng Yipai 008, Chery Fulwin T11, GAC Trumpchi S9, Zeekr 9X, Nio Onvo L90, and Geely Galaxy M9.
This is not necessarily a drawback. Buyers in this segment typically care less about design and more about space, comfort, and the quiet authority conveyed by a large SUV.
One of the most distinctive design elements is the thick chrome trim that wraps around the side windows and conceals the D-pillar, giving it vibes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Mercedes-Maybach GLS. Leapmotor has also added a unique lighting signature for the split headlights and full-width rear lights.
The D19 also features chromed disc-style wheels that further reflect the stylistic approaches of Rolls-Royce and Maybach. With a length of 5.2 meters and a generous wheelbase of 3.1 m, the SUV is about the same size as a BMW X7 or Mercedes GLS.
We haven’t seen the interior yet, but it is expected to feature an advanced digital dashboard with a separate display for the passenger, as well as high-quality materials throughout the cabin. The D19 will run on dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chipsets, one handling the infotainment system and the other powering the complex ADAS suite.
Another unusual feature is the built-in oxygen generator, capable of producing 8 liters per minute. The company claims it maintains clean, breathable air in traffic or at high altitude, which, at best, seems like an admission of how bad urban air has become, and at worst, a marketing gimmick.
Powertrain Options
Regarding powertrain options, the D19 will be offered in both all-electric and range-extender forms. The battery-electric version generates 724 hp with a massive 115 kWh battery, providing a range of 720 km on the CLTC cycle.
The hybrid combines dual electric motors with a range-extender engine, producing a total of 536 hp. The 80.3 kWh battery offers 500 km of electric-only range, indicating a very impressive overall figure between charging and refueling stops.
How Much Will It Cost?
Perhaps the most remarkable detail is the price. Leapmotor indicated a starting price from 250,000 to 300,000 yuan, which is approximately $35,000–42,000. And yes, that figure sounds like a bargain to anyone trying to buy a car in the West these days.
In fact, it’s roughly what you would pay for a hybrid Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V in the States, or, worse, for a mid-range Toyota Yaris Cross if you live in Germany. And that’s not even considering the more painful pricing realities in other parts of Europe.
Despite this, you might be surprised to learn that the D19 will not be the cheapest in its class. The Geely Galaxy M9 offers a lower starting price of 173,800 yuan thanks to discounts.
Growing Model Range and Production Milestone
Of course, the D19 will position itself above the T03, B01, B10, C01, C10, C11, and C16, becoming the new top model in Leapmotor’s lineup for the domestic market. Spy photos have also hinted at a flagship minivan currently under development, which might use the same platform as the large SUV.
On September 25, Leapmotor announced that its one-millionth car had rolled off the production line. The manufacturer confirmed its commitment to fully in-house research and development and its goal to become a “respectable, world-class intelligent EV manufacturing company.”
The emergence of the D19 demonstrates how quickly Chinese EV manufacturers can evolve and compete globally. The offered specifications and price make it a serious contender in a market where traditional brands have until recently dominated unchallenged. It also highlights the growing importance of affordability and innovation in the modern automotive sector, especially in the context of increasing competition between West and East.
