Chinese SUV with Porsche Touches Prepares to Enter the European Market

New Electric Crossover Ora 5 Prepares to Enter the European Market

The new Ora 5 electric crossover from Chinese company Great Wall Motor has been spotted during road tests in Europe. This confirms the automaker’s plans to introduce its first SUV outside its home market.

The car, disguised under protective film, has already been officially presented in Asia, but European tests indicate preparations for local sales. The Ora 5 is a larger version of the Ora 3 model (known in Europe as the Funky Cat) and will take its place in the compact electric crossover segment.

Design Reminds of Porsche, but with a Focus on Friendliness

Despite the camouflage, the car’s shapes hint at features reminiscent of some Porsche models, particularly the Macan and 911. However, according to observers, the overall appearance of the Ora 5 is more friendly and less aggressive than that of many competitors.

Ora wants cute but practical, not mean and aggressive.

The brand’s signature rounded light signatures and smooth body contours have been preserved. The car is just under 4.5 meters long with a wheelbase of 2.72 meters, making it a direct competitor to models such as the BYD Atto 3, Peugeot e-2008, and Kia EV3.

Technical Specifications and Interior Features

Under the hood, the Ora 5 features a single electric motor with 201 horsepower (204 PS). The car will receive a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. Two capacity options are expected: 63.87 kWh and 83.49 kWh, similar to the Lightning Cat sedan from the same company.

The interior has inherited many elements from the updated Ora 3. The centerpiece is a large floating infotainment system running on the GWM Coffee OS operating system, which integrates some climate control functions.

However, some key controls are executed as physical switches on the center console. Standard equipment also includes:

Strategic Importance for the Brand in Europe

The launch of the Ora 5 on the European market in 2026 is of strategic importance for the brand. After the mixed success of previous models, the company needs a substantial product that meets modern European tastes. The compact electric crossover perfectly fits into the most competitive segment of the European electric car market.

The success of this model could be a turning point for GWM’s presence on the European continent, offering buyers an alternative to established brands. Competition will be fierce, but the Ora 5 seems to be betting on a combination of attractive design, practicality, and modern technology, which may find its buyer.
