Xiaomi, previously known for its smartphones, is now making strides in the world of high-speed automobiles. Their SU7 Ultra electric vehicle has officially set a record for production electric cars on the legendary Nürburgring track. Although this result is 18 seconds slower than the previous prototype, it still proved to be better than its competitors.
The record-breaking car was a production version with the track package. It can reach speeds of up to 345 km/h and is equipped with a triple electric motor setup producing 1,527 hp. This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.89 seconds.
This is not the end. We are planning new records at the Nürburgring, – stated Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun.
Available Power
Interestingly, the full power of the SU7 Ultra is not available immediately. The standard mode limits output to 888 hp, and a special mode must be activated to unlock full power. The system records the lap time to verify if the driver can truly handle the additional power.
Despite specifications that compete with hypercars, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has a relatively accessible price. In China, it costs approximately $73,600, which is significantly cheaper than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with its starting price of $278,000.
The company has published a video of the record lap, which has also appeared on the Nürburgring’s official channels. This indicates Xiaomi’s serious intentions in the world of high-performance automobiles. Given the technical specifications and aggressive pricing policy, the Chinese manufacturer could become a serious player in the high-end electric vehicle market.
