New Generation Chinese Supercar Prepares to Compete with Ferrari, and Now It’s a Serious Challenge

Chinese Automaker Great Wall Motors is Preparing a Supercar

The Chinese supercar market continues to evolve, and now another major player may join it. Great Wall Motors (GWM) has hinted at its new project – a mid-engined supercar that has been in development for five years. This is evidenced by a camouflaged image published by the company’s chairman, Wei Jianjun, on the Weibo social network.

The photo, taken during the company’s 35th-anniversary celebration, shows the silhouette of a car with characteristic sports car features: a low stance, a wide base, and a long rear overhang. Although technical details have not yet been disclosed, the model is expected to feature a hybrid powertrain based on a twin-turbo V8.

Technical Features and Competitors

According to GWM’s Chief Technology Officer, Wu Huixiao, the supercar will be equipped with a carbon fiber monocoque and will be developed taking into account the recommendations of European experts. This will allow achieving high dynamic performance without an excessive increase in price.

We strive to create a high-performance car that will be more affordable than similar competitor models

The new model is expected to debut by the end of the year and become an alternative to models such as the BYD Yangwang U9 and the Aion Hyper SSR. The estimated price could be over 1 million yuan (about 140 thousand dollars), which is significantly lower than competitors’ offerings.

The development of the Chinese automotive industry has been accelerating in recent years, and the emergence of a new supercar from GWM could be another step in the fight for the global market. The company has already demonstrated its hybrid platform at the Shanghai Auto Show, indicating serious intentions in the high-performance vehicle segment.
