Lamborghini Does Not Plan to Create an Updated Version of the Miura Model

Modern Trends and Lamborghini’s Position

In the world of automotive design, reincarnations of classic models are appearing more and more frequently, such as the recent McLaren F1-inspired S1 LM by Gordon Murray. However, Lamborghini has decided not to go down this path regarding its legendary Miura, preferring to focus on the future rather than the past.

Experience with the Countach and Lessons for the Brand

In 2021, the company from Sant’Agata created a modern version of the iconic Countach based on the Sian FKP 37, which was named the Countach LPI 800-4. This model sold out quickly but caused dissatisfaction among purists who believed the Countach was too iconic to be recreated. With the Miura, the situation is different—Lamborghini will avoid similar experiments.

Words from the Design Chief

During a recent interview with Auto Express, the head of the design department, Mitja Borkert, noted that while the potential for a new Miura’s success exists, the brand is focused on innovation, not nostalgia.

“There would be demand, but we won’t do it. Lamborghini is a brand whose rearview mirrors are small and the windshield is large. We do not look back, we look to the future. And I believe that’s how it should be.”

Miura’s Potential and Market Expectations

The Miura, with its compact dimensions and long hood, has characteristics that are becoming rare in modern cars, which are constantly increasing in size. Collectors would likely be willing to buy a model that offers similar driving sensations but with modern technology and comfort.

Historical Context and Future Projects

In 2006, Lamborghini presented a retro-inspired Miura concept for the model’s 40th anniversary, but series production was not planned. Instead, the brand is expanding its family of limited series, such as the Fenomeno based on the Revuelto, released in a run of only 29 units, and is also working on the new Temerario and its future modifications.

This strategy underscores that even in a world where retro design is gaining popularity, brands like Lamborghini can successfully balance honoring heritage with creating innovations that shape the future of the automotive industry. Their decisions are often based not only on market trends but also on a brand philosophy that emphasizes progress and uniqueness.
