Lamborghini Accuses Dealer of Selling Sports Cars to ‘Drug Traffickers and Pimps’

Lamborghini Accuses Dealer of Selling Cars Through Intermediaries

The Italian luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has filed a lawsuit against dealer Gold Coast Exotic Imports, accusing it of breach of contract. According to the documents, the dealer sold cars through brokers, not directly to end customers.

The legal process has been ongoing since 2024, but the parties may find a compromise. Lamborghini claims that their agreement with the dealer allows sales only to private clients or official dealers.

Doubtful Deals

As an example, the dealer reported the sale of a car to a clinic director from Minnesota and a former athlete from Chicago. In reality, the cars ended up with intermediaries who did not plan to use them.

In one case, the buyer had previously pleaded guilty to fraud related to money laundering through the sale of luxury cars

According to the company, 32 such deals were discovered in 2023 alone. Furthermore, the dealer allegedly demanded unofficial payments from clients for access to limited models.

Positions of the Parties

Gold Coast denies the accusations, but the court dismissed their motions to close the case. The dealer accuses Lamborghini of non-payment for showroom upgrades and marketing, as well as an attempt to oust their president.

Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer noted that the parties are actively discussing the possibility of a settlement. A representative of the dealer added that all issues, including disputes before the Illinois Motor Vehicle Review Board, could be resolved.

This situation highlights the complexity of controlling the sales chain of exclusive cars. Even major brands face problems when dealers look for ways to bypass rules for extra profit. A potential deal between Lamborghini and Gold Coast could set a precedent for similar disputes in the future.
