Lancia Delta from the 80s to be revived in a new generation with similar body styles

Lancia Delta

Lancia is preparing the return of the iconic Delta in 2028 after the Ypsilon and Gamma models. The new car will be part of the revival of the Italian brand under the aegis of Stellantis and will have an HF Integrale version. This is reported by Motor.es.

Lancia Delta HF Integrale to return 30 years after production ended

The fourth generation Delta will receive an HF Integrale version, reviving a name not used since the early 90s. The second and third generation Deltas did not have an HF Integrale variant due to the front-wheel drive of all modifications. The original Delta HF Integrale dominated rallying from 1987 to 1992, winning six consecutive World Rally Championship manufacturers’ titles.

The future HF Integrale version will most likely be electric, although the final decision on the powertrain lineup has not yet been made. The Ypsilon already has an HF variant with a 280 hp electric motor, similar to the Peugeot e-208 GTI and Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce. The Gamma will also receive an HF Integrale modification.

Lancia Delta to be built on the Peugeot 308 platform

The new Delta will belong to the C-segment and will use the Peugeot 308 platform. The car will have a hatchback body approximately 4.4 meters long, which corresponds to the dimensions of its French counterpart with its 4.367-meter length. This is longer than the original Delta, which did not reach four meters, but shorter than the third generation from 2008, which exceeded 4.5 meters.

The design is expected to feature references to the classic Delta from the 80s. The rear of the Ypsilon already contains a hint of the Lancia Stratos from the 70s with its Ferrari Dino V6 engine. The Gamma will be built on the STLA Medium platform and will share components with the Peugeot E-3008, with a length of about 4.6 meters.

The HF Integrale version of both models may receive an electric motor on each axle with a total output of about 450 hp. Stellantis has also returned Lancia to rallying with the Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale, which will debut at the 2026 Monte Carlo Rally with drivers Nikolay Gryazin and Johan Rossel.
