If you are one of those who stops when you see a classic BMW, this example is worth your attention. Alpina is known for turning already excellent BMWs into something special – from the legendary C1 and B7 S Turbo to the extravagant 3.0 CSL “Batmobile” and the modern D3 S Touring.
Among these models, the 1976 BMW B2 Alpina holds a special place as a rare and desirable collector’s car. A restored B2 will soon be sold at a Mecum auction, and fans of vintage sports sedans should take note. This model is considered the first true high-performance BMW sedan even before the M5 appeared.
The B2 was based on the 1975 BMW E12 528. Alpina modified it by installing a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-six engine with three twin-choke carburetors, forged pistons, a modified combustion chamber, and a reworked crankshaft. The result is 230 hp at 6750 rpm and 265 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm, which was impressive for the mid-1970s and remains a respectable figure today.

Although the details of this car’s early history are unknown, it is known to have undergone a complete restoration. The body was repainted in Fjord Blue, blue-green stripes were added to the front, sides, and rear, and lightweight 14-inch wheels with new tires were installed.
During the restoration, the engine, transmission, steering, suspension, and rear axle were completely refurbished, so the B2 should drive just as well as it did when it left the Alpina production line.
The exterior, engine bay, and underbody look impeccable, and the interior is in excellent condition despite the 148,936 km mileage. It features an Alpina instrument panel, fabric seats, a leather steering wheel, and wood trim on the door panels, dashboard, and gear lever.
This is one of the few naturally aspirated B2s produced by Alpina, so it will undoubtedly attract significant interest at the auction. If you’re interested (and it’s hard not to be), you can check out the full description on the Mecum website and get ready to bid. Good luck!
