Lexus is opting for a more flexible approach to electrification, gradually introducing fully electric models but not abandoning hybrids. Although the company previously planned to switch to EVs by 2035, it is now preparing a variety of models, including a sports coupe, a sedan, and a three-row SUV.
One of the most anticipated novelties is a sports coupe inspired by the 2021 Lexus Electrified Sport concept. This model is set to continue the legacy of the legendary LFA, but without an internal combustion engine. The car is expected to appear in 2026 with solid-state batteries and powerful electric motors.
Company chairman Akio Toyoda is personally involved in the development of the electric sports coupe to guarantee its high dynamic performance.
Hybrids and SUV Updates
Lexus will continue to offer hybrid versions of its models, including the ES sedan. The new IS, expected in 2026, will also receive both hybrid and electric variants. At the same time, some models, such as the GS, may be discontinued without successors.
The Lexus SUV lineup is also preparing for serious updates. The UX will get a redesign in 2026, and the NX, RX, GX, and LX are expected to be updated by 2028. Particular attention is drawn to the future fully electric TX, which may debut in 2027.
The latest electric RZ, which is currently the only Lexus EV in North America, will receive new features, including simulated gear shifting and a steer-by-wire system. A more powerful F-Sport version is expected in 2026.
These plans show that Lexus is trying to find a balance between tradition and innovation, offering customers a variety of options – from powerful sports cars to family SUVs, both electric and hybrid. This decision allows the brand to remain competitive in different market segments.
