Lucid Announces New $50,000 SUV Model with Level 4 Autonomous Driving

First Look at the New Affordable Model

American electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid has finally revealed its future model, which will become a more affordable alternative to the expensive Air sedans and Gravity SUVs. This new vehicle will likely be named Earth, and its price will start below the $50,000 mark. Production is set to begin next year.

Key Model Features

Design and Exterior

The model preview shows it from the rear, allowing appreciation of its compact dimensions and sporty profile. Compared to Gravity, this model has a shorter rear overhang and a more steeply raked rear window, reminiscent of the Tesla Model Y profile.

The rear lights are executed as simple horizontal LED strips, making them cheaper than the complex systems in Air and Gravity. Also noticeable are new door handles, integrated into the body, and characteristic wheel arches.

Production Plans and Future Models

Production of the new model will take place at the AMP-2 plant in Saudi Arabia. Lucid also plans to release several vehicles on this platform, although details about other models are currently limited.

Partnership with Nvidia

Simultaneously with the new model presentation, Lucid announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia. The manufacturer is switching to the Nvidia Drive AV platform, which will enable Level 4 autonomous driving. This means the driver will be able to fully entrust vehicle control to the car under certain conditions.

The existing DreamDrive Pro system was already enhanced in the Gravity model thanks to Nvidia technologies, providing Level 2++ autonomy. To achieve Level 4, Lucid is integrating the full suite of Nvidia sensors, including cameras, radars, and lidars. Each vehicle will receive two Nvidia Drive AGX Thor computers, operating under the DriveOS operating system.

This next-generation platform with centralized architecture and redundant processors will unite all automated driving functions, ensuring a smooth transition across the autonomy spectrum.

Furthermore, software updates will allow adding new autonomous driving features for the Gravity model.

This model could become a key player in the affordable electric vehicle market, combining innovative technologies and attractive design. Lucid demonstrates that it is ready to compete not only in the premium segment but also in the mass market, which could significantly expand its audience. The partnership with Nvidia also underscores the brand’s ambitions for leadership in the autonomous driving field, which is becoming an increasingly important factor for modern buyers.
