Mercedes-AMG is preparing to launch the new CLE 63 Mythos, and the latest spy photos from the Nürburgring show impressive progress in the development of this track-focused car. Despite the camouflage, the prototype reveals many details that point to the model’s serious intent.
Exterior and Aerodynamics
The newest prototype, spotted on the Nürburgring track, features a production front bumper with more organic lower air intakes. New upper aerodynamic ducts on both sides of the LED headlights and a deep front splitter are also visible.
The wide front fenders have gained noticeable sawtooth ventilation openings to extract air from the wheel arches, reminiscent of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. At the rear, massive fender flares are installed, which will likely be replaced by one-piece parts by the time of the premiere.
Rear Section and Exhaust System
At the rear, the signature square exhaust tips of the AMG 63 system can be seen, now positioned diagonally, similar to the old Lexus IS-F or the new Aston Martin DB12 S. The rear spoiler features larger side plates, a central section with an adjustable angle of attack, and metal struts of a frame-type design.
Similarity to the Black Series
The more we see this car, the more it resembles a modern interpretation of the legendary Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series. This is a very promising direction, especially given the high likelihood that the engine sound will be equally magnificent.
Engine and Prospects
Under the hood is a modified version of the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft, which recently debuted in the Mercedes S-Class. According to rumors, it could produce around 637-646 hp, which is 200 hp more than the six-cylinder AMG CLE 53.
This engine could become particularly important following the criticism of the four-cylinder hybrid Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance. Buyers did not accept the downsized engine, and Mercedes reportedly plans to bring back the V8 for the next generation of the C63. It is quite likely that AMG will first introduce the new engine in the Mythos this year, and then begin installing it in production sedans and SUVs bearing the 63 badge.
This prototype, named Baldauf, demonstrates that AMG is not just updating the design but creating a genuine track tool. The combination of aggressive aerodynamics, a powerful V8 engine, and inspiration from the legendary Black Series makes the CLE Mythos one of the most anticipated cars from the brand. If the power rumors prove true, this model will become not only a tribute to the past but also a powerful statement for the future, showing that AMG is not abandoning large engines but merely adapting them to new requirements.
