Almost all 240SX were wrecked in drifting, but this one with 15,000 km survived

This impressive 240SX has some tuning parts, but remains mostly stock. The interior retains all original elements except for a new head unit. The 240SX’s 2.4-liter engine produces 155 hp and 217 Nm of torque.

A rare S14 example

Try to find an S-platform Nissan that hasn’t suffered from harsh use, drifting, and repeated welding over the past three decades. Now try to find one with low mileage. This 1996 240SX, sold in the US, is a rare example that meets both criteria, and is possibly one of the cleanest specimens remaining in the country.

Technical features

This generation of the 240SX, known as the S14, was offered with several differential options. This car is a lower-specification SE model, meaning it does not have the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder SR20 engine the model is famous for, but instead uses a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. This engine produced 155 hp and 217 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.

Condition and mileage

The main advantage of this 240SX is that it has traveled less than 9,500 miles (15,288 km), which likely makes it one of the lowest-mileage examples in the US. Not only has the car been used sparingly, but it has also not undergone significant mechanical modifications. However, as noted in the Cars & Bids listing, the car is not entirely original.

It is now equipped with Koni shock absorbers and Eibach lowering springs, has a Stillen front strut bar, a non-standard muffler, and a new rear stabilizer bar. A non-standard intake is also installed; otherwise, the engine remains stock. Some exterior changes have been made, including a new front splitter, side skirts, rear spats, and a rear spoiler.

Overall, the car appears to be in exceptional condition. However, potential buyers should note that the side skirts and rear spats are attached to the original bodywork using visible screws. If the car is to be returned to factory condition, these holes will need to be filled and painted.

Interior and additional details

As for the interior, it is absolutely immaculate and also completely original, except for a non-standard double-DIN head unit with Apple CarPlay. The coupe has also recently received a ceramic coating, so it will continue to shine in red for many years to come.

Most surviving S14s have been through ten owners, three engine swaps, and at least one questionable decision regarding ride height. This SE has avoided all of that, making the screw holes in the side skirts the only real evidence that someone has touched it before. This is forgivable. It is worth placing a bid before someone with plans for a drift project does.

This 240SX is a true find for collectors, as finding an S14 in this condition is almost impossible. Its low mileage and minimal modifications make it an ideal candidate for preservation in its original state or for careful restoration. It is worth noting that the market for such cars is constantly growing, and this example could be a profitable investment, especially considering that most “living” S14s have long since turned into drift projects or have been lost to corrosion and careless use.
