Updated Version of the Powerful Estate
The German tuning atelier Manhart Performance has presented the updated MH5 900E package for the BMW M5 Touring. This version replaces the previous MH5 800E, increasing power to impressive figures.
The standard BMW M5 Touring is a powerful but heavy car, yet this is compensated by its technical characteristics: 717 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. A year and a half ago, Manhart already raised the bar by presenting versions of this estate with up to 789 hp. Now the company has once again improved its creation.
The Secret of High Power
Manhart engineers did not limit themselves to standard chip tuning of the 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 engine. Instead, they installed a pair of upgraded turbochargers and conducted deep work with the software. This allowed for a significant increase in output.
The final result is an M5 that now delivers a staggering 897 horsepower (910 PS) and 1200 Nm of torque combined.
To achieve such figures, a new exhaust system with stainless steel valves and matte black tailpipes, as well as new downpipes, were also developed. However, the latter are not road-legal in Germany, so they are offered only for export markets.
Restrained Design and Options
The car’s exterior remains very similar to the previous MH5 800E model. Manhart is distinguished by avoiding excessive visual changes, so the updates are limited to redesigned front and rear bumpers, as well as gold accent stripes.
Clients can also order the car with 21- or 22-inch forged Manhart Concave One wheels with various tires for the front and rear axles.
Handling and Weight
Engineers are trying to compensate for the M5 Touring’s considerable weight with aftermarket suspension options. Lowering springs or adjustable coilovers improve responses and handling, although the latter can make the ride stiffer for daily use.
Such projects demonstrate the great potential embedded in modern powertrains from manufacturers, which are often limited by environmental regulations. The work of tuning ateliers like Manhart opens new horizons of speed and dynamics for enthusiasts, even for large family cars like estates. This also highlights the constant competition in the high-performance car market, where every additional kilowatt becomes a significant argument.
