Maserati Can’t Sell an $85,000 Car, So It’s Offering a $103,000 Watch

Maserati and Bianchet have introduced a limited series of an exclusive watch. This accessory, named the UltraFino Maserati, is dedicated to the centenary of the firm’s Trident logo. Production is limited to only 100 pieces, and its price exceeds that of the Grecale crossover.

Luxury Instead of Cars

Despite global sales of Maserati cars falling to just 7,900 units last year, the brand has not lost its taste for expensive distractions. Instead of addressing the problem of slow sales, the company has joined forces with watchmaker Bianchet to create a serious accessory for those who, presumably, already have everything else.

The UltraFino Maserati Flying Tourbillon model celebrates 100 years of the Trident logo, and now this symbol can be worn on the wrist at a price that makes a new Maserati car seem like a prudent financial decision.

A Staggering Price

The watch costs 81,616 Swiss francs, which is approximately $103,400 USD at the current exchange rate including VAT. This amount comfortably exceeds the starting price of the Maserati Grecale crossover in the USA, which is $84,500, while discounted models can start from $77,060.

Yes, an accessory with the Trident logo is more expensive than a new 2026 Corvette Stingray Coupe ($72,495) or a 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman ($86,335). However, in fairness, it remains a relative bargain compared to the Maserati MCPura, which costs around $250,000 and comes with the additional inconvenience of being a car.

Design and Technology

Putting the price question aside, the UltraFino Maserati Flying Tourbillon watch actively utilizes the brand’s design language. The skeletonized dial is inspired by the MCPura’s wheel discs, and the accents are finished in the same AI Aqua Rainbow finish. Even the high-density carbon fiber case and bracelet mirror the supercar’s monocoque chassis.

Beneath the sapphire crystal lies the Bianchet UT01 caliber — a hand-finished automatic movement just 3.85 mm thick. It looks delicate but is rated for shocks up to 5000 G, which seems somewhat excessive for a device whose primary task is to tell time.

The tourbillon cage is made from Grade 5 titanium and is positioned as the horological equivalent of Maserati’s Nettuno engine. The total weight of the watch without the strap is just 36 grams. Buyers can choose an integrated carbon fiber bracelet or a vulcanized rubber strap with a titanium buckle, depending on how much racing spirit they want in their six-figure accessory.

Exclusive Terms

To mark the model’s launch, Maserati and Bianchet are organizing exclusive events in Geneva, where guests will be able to evaluate the MCPura and then admire the watch, which, fortunately, costs less.

Such collaborations between automakers and luxury watchmakers have become a notable trend in recent years, serving not only as a way to mark anniversaries but also as a branding tool aimed at the highest echelons of clients. For Maserati, it is also an opportunity to maintain an aura of exclusivity and high craftsmanship during a period when core car sales are facing difficulties. The limited series of 100 pieces will most likely find its owners among collectors and brand enthusiasts, for whom the value of the Trident symbolism outweighs purely practical considerations. This project is a reminder that luxury is often measured not by utility, but by rarity, history, and the emotions invested in a product.
