Maybach has quickly introduced a new ultra-luxury version of the updated S-Class, just two months after the debut of the standard model. A series of teasers showcases a car that seems aimed at buyers seeking even greater presence and theatricality than a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Exterior Changes and Lighting Accents
The first teasers allow us to glimpse the exterior changes. While the base remains recognizable, it’s the details that play a key role. The car retains the standard S-Class LED headlights with star-shaped daytime running lights, but the radiator grille completely alters the perception.
It has the same basic outline but has received vertical slats instead of horizontal bars, which is a signature feature of Maybach. The front also features an illuminated Maybach logo on the hood, along with a glowing three-pointed star ornament that leaves no doubt about the car’s status.
This is not the only lighting touch. The teasers also show illuminated Maybach emblems on the C-pillars and individual projection lights, each displaying the Maybach brand. Owners of this flagship sedan will find it hard to mistake it for a standard S-Class in the dark.
Possible Powertrains
Prior to the facelift, the S-Class was sold in S 480 4Matic, S 580 4Matic, S 680 4Matic, and S 580 e configurations. Maybach will likely continue to offer the new model with several different powertrains. There is no confirmation yet as to which version is shown in the teasers or which will appear first, although the top-tier S 680 seems the most likely candidate.

Technical Expectations
If that is the case, it may retain the bi-turbo V12 engine from the previous model, producing 603 hp and 830 Nm of torque in the range from 2300 to 4300 rpm. If it’s the mid-range S 580 version, it will likely abandon the existing 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 in favor of a new 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. In the standard S 580, this engine produces 530 hp and 750 Nm, which is a significant increase compared to the 496 hp and 700 Nm of the old model.
Mercedes-Maybach has not yet confirmed a launch date, but an official debut is expected in the coming weeks or months.

Maybach’s quick response to the update of the base model indicates the high priority of this segment for the corporation. The emphasis on lighting identification and exclusive details underscores the strategy of creating not just an expensive, but a distinctly separate product within the lineup. Retaining the V12 engine, despite the general trend of moving away from such units, could become an important argument for traditional luxury sedan buyers who value not only technology but also symbolism. The success of this model will depend on how successfully it manages to combine classic luxury with new design elements and technical capabilities.
