Mazda Miata has received many green shades, but this one is a first

New color for Mazda MX-5: Zinc Green Metallic

Mazda has introduced a new color for its iconic sports car, the MX-5. It is not yet known whether it will appear on the US market, or when that might happen. However, this is not the bright green that makes people think you borrowed a shade from Lamborghini’s palette.

The new color is called Zinc Green Metallic. According to the manufacturer, it creates a “strong presence, harmoniously blending with both natural landscapes and urban environments.”

Mazda notes that the color is inspired by the shade of zinc chromate primer used in various industries. Blue metallic particles have been added to the paint, making it more expressive. Unfortunately, the company has only published one image of the MX-5 in this color, so it is difficult to tell how it will look under different lighting conditions.

Availability and features

The new color will be available for both the soft-top version and the MX-5 RF with a retractable hardtop. It looks particularly striking when combined with simple black wheels, allowing the paint to remain the center of attention. Although Mazda has a rich history of green shades, this is the first time the fourth-generation MX-5 has been offered in such a color.

Mazda has not said whether MX-5 buyers will have to pay extra for Zinc Green Metallic. It also notes that color availability will vary by market, but the company is not yet ready to announce which markets will get it and when.

Future of the MX-5

Although the market for small, lightweight sports cars is shrinking, the current ND MX-5 generation is expected to last until the end of the decade. Nevertheless, Mazda has already begun developing a successor and aims to keep it light and affordable.

The introduction of the new Zinc Green Metallic color indicates that Mazda continues to maintain interest in the current MX-5 model by adding fresh personalization options. This is particularly important against the backdrop of the overall trend towards electrification and increasing vehicle sizes. Maintaining a lightweight and affordable price for the next generation will be a key challenge for the company, as these characteristics have made the MX-5 a favorite among enthusiasts worldwide. The choice of a green color inspired by an industrial shade may also signal Mazda’s desire to experiment with more restrained yet expressive solutions that distinguish the car from brighter competitors.
