Mazda Still Won’t Build A Rugged CX-5, So AutoExe Did It For $3,200

New Look at the Mazda CX-5 from AutoExe

While Mazda is only considering the possibility of creating an off-road version of the new CX-5 that could compete with the Toyota RAV4 Woodland and Subaru Forester Wilderness, the Japanese tuning shop AutoExe has already presented its own vision. Founded by former factory Mazda pilot and 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Yojiro Terada, the shop offers two options at once: a rugged off-road version and a sporty one.

KM-07 AX Off-Road Package

The KM-07 AX (Active Xross) kit is built for adventures. Its main feature is a redesigned lower front bumper section with integrated LEDs and an aluminum skid plate that mimics engine protection. The look is completed by bolt-on fender flares (available in matte or gloss black), a rear diffuser in an aluminum style that also serves as protection, and a matching tailgate garnish.

For those seeking maximum completeness, AutoExe offers rally-style mud flaps in red or black, special decals for the hood and tailgate, as well as protective covers for the door handles.

KM-07 Sport Package

In contrast to the off-road kit, the sporty KM-07 set is more reminiscent of the Mazdaspeed style. It includes a front bumper extension with a pronounced splitter, deeper side skirts, a roof spoiler, and a rear bumper extension framing twin exhaust tips.

All components are finished in gloss black to harmonize with the factory bumper and wheel arch cladding. Buyers can supplement the set with carbon-coated visors and protective door handle covers.

Future Updates

Although AutoExe currently offers only stylistic updates, the company has confirmed work on “functional parts.” A full catalog for the new CX-5 is expected to be presented by autumn, which will include:

The styling kits and future chassis and engine components will become available through the Mazda dealer network in Japan. The price of the off-road KM-07 AX kit is ¥501,710 (about $3,200 at current exchange rates), and the sporty KM-07 kit is ¥445,060 ($2,800).

Thus, AutoExe is quickly filling a niche that the manufacturer itself is currently ignoring. By offering both off-road and sporty variants, the tuners give CX-5 owners the opportunity to customize their vehicle according to their own preferences without waiting for official decisions from Mazda. The price of $3,200 for a complete set looks competitive, especially considering the build quality and the authority of the brand founded by a legendary racer. All that remains is to wait for autumn, when technical enhancements are presented that could make this package not just visual, but truly functional.
