Model history and future

The Mazda3 first appeared in late 2018 as a 2019 model and, interestingly, still has not received a full-fledged facelift. It is reported that the next generation may appear no earlier than 2032, so Mazda is currently maintaining the model’s relevance with minor refinements.

Main equipment changes

The biggest change for the 2026 model year is that the eight-speaker Mazda Harmonic Acoustic audio system is now installed as standard from the base S trim. The same applies to the 8.8-inch infotainment display, LED lighting, and the suite of ADAS systems.

The base versions of both the sedan and hatchback are equipped with 16-inch wheels, but the rest of the model range is upgraded to 18-inch alloy wheels. In addition, the flagship Mazda3 Turbo Premium Plus gets a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, leather seats, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.

Powertrains and transmissions

The choice of powertrains remains the same as last year, with naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions of the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline engine. The Mazda3 also continues to stand out as one of the few cars that still offers a six-speed manual transmission, available in select trims alongside the six-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, while i-Activ all-wheel drive is offered for higher-end models.

The Mazda3 sedan and hatchback for the 2026 model year will arrive at US dealerships in the summer.

Mazda3 prices remain competitive in the market, despite external economic factors, indicating the brand’s strategy to maintain affordability without compromising quality. The retention of the manual transmission also underscores the focus on drivers who value a more active driving experience, contrary to the general trend towards automation.
