Mercedes-AMG Declared War on BMW and Audi by Introducing a Wagon $30,000 Cheaper

Price and Competitive Advantages

The new Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon starts from $93,350 excluding additional fees, making it significantly more affordable than competitors from Audi and BMW, which cost over $30,000 more. The car is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that delivers 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.

Availability and Specifications

The model will arrive at dealers in the fall of this year. The cost is $3,750 higher than the sedan but remains significantly lower than the Audi RS6 Avant ($130,700) and BMW M5 Touring ($123,900). The hybrid system includes a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, a 28.6 kWh battery, and an electric motor integrated into a nine-speed automatic transmission.

This gives the car a combined output of 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque.

Performance and Additional Options

The Wagon accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds and has an electric range of 41 miles. The top speed is 155 mph, but with the AMG Dynamic Plus package, it increases to 174 mph. This package also adds a limited-slip differential and an improved braking system.

Comparison with Competitors

The Audi RS6 Avant Performance has 621 hp and accelerates to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, while the BMW M5 Touring with a hybrid setup produces 717 hp and accelerates in 3.5 seconds, although its electric range is only 25 miles.

Equipment and Options

The E 53 Hybrid Wagon has all-wheel drive, an adaptive damping suspension, and rear-axle steering. Standard equipment includes 20-inch wheels, heated seats, a leather steering wheel, and a panoramic roof. Numerous options are available, including a passenger screen, various upholstery materials, and trim packages.

Additional Trim Levels

Exclusive and Pinnacle trims are offered, which add improved headlights, noise insulation, ambient lighting technologies, and projection systems. The Edition 1 version will have a unique exterior, wheel design, and interior.

Considering the trends towards sustainability and performance, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon combines the efficiency of hybrid technology with the power traditional for AMG. Its competitive price may attract wagon enthusiasts looking for an alternative to more expensive German models without sacrificing dynamics and comfort.
