Expected Debut and Exterior Changes
Mercedes-AMG has long hinted at an updated GT 4-Door, but now spy photos have captured the first images of the facelifted coupe. It is expected to appear next year and bring a whole host of changes.
Despite testing being in its early stages, it’s visible that the sports car has received a new front bumper and temporary headlights. The latter appear to have a flatter bottom and will likely be adorned with stars on the production model.
Design Details and Technical Expectations
Slightly lower down, the model seems to have a lightly updated radiator grille with a more uniform oval shape. Designers also appear to have refined the lower air intake, which now has more in common with the SL model.
The rest of the car remains largely unchanged, but a number of changes can be expected on the production model. This will likely include a new rear bumper, updated rear lights, and revised wheels.
Interior and Powertrain Updates
Spy photographers couldn’t get a good look inside, but the arrival of the new Mercedes-Benz operating system, which debuted on the updated CLA, can be expected. It is filled with artificial intelligence, as it includes Google Gemini as well as the MBUX virtual assistant.
As for the multimedia system, it is covered with black fabric and flanked by two familiar air vents on the sides. This suggests the model will not follow in the footsteps of the facelifted S-Class, which abandoned the portrait display.
Since this prototype has four round exhaust tips, we are looking at the base GT 43 version. Currently, its starting price is $106,500, and it is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 416 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
Future of the Model Lineup
It remains unclear whether the engine will receive a power boost, but an expanded GT model range can be expected, including versions with a bi-turbo V8 and a plug-in hybrid. A new Black Series, previewed by the AMG GT Track Sport concept, is also expected to appear.
The appearance of the updated coupe indicates ongoing competition in the high-performance sports car segment, where even flagship models require regular updates to maintain interest. The focus on updated interior technology, particularly AI-powered systems, has become a key trend in recent years, and Mercedes-AMG is clearly striving to keep up with these demands. Preserving the traditional interior design amidst updates in other models may be a deliberate step aimed at satisfying the existing brand enthusiast base, who appreciate classic solutions.
