First images of the electric Mercedes-AMG C-Class
Mercedes-Benz is actively working on the first fully electric C-Class, and the AMG division is already preparing a high-performance version. Fresh spy photos show a camouflaged prototype that, despite the disguise, looks ready to take on competitors.
The new model is expected to receive a number of key features:
Design and Exterior
At first glance, the prototype already differs from the classic ICE C-Class sedan. Instead of the usual three-box shape, this electric vehicle showcases a more streamlined fastback silhouette. It looks sportier and less conservative.
Upon closer inspection, characteristic AMG elements become noticeable. The test vehicle has large forged wheels, behind which massive perforated brake discs are barely hidden. At the rear, right under the rear window, is an active, deployable spoiler to improve aerodynamics at high speeds.
Light Signature and Platform
At the front and rear, the latest Mercedes light signature in the form of stars is also noticeable. These characteristic daytime running lights, along with the large light grille, will make the production C-Class recognizable as a brand car even in the dark.
Under the hood, or rather under the floor, the AMG version of the electric C-Class uses the MB.EA architecture recently introduced on the GLC with EQ Technology. This platform is designed specifically for electric vehicles and supports an 800-volt electrical system for ultra-fast charging and improved efficiency.
Power and Competitors
The company has confirmed that regular, non-AMG models will receive a 94 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 800 kilometers. However, the performance version will likely have to sacrifice a few kilometers of battery range.
In return, it will receive significantly more power. According to photographers, the system’s output could reach 789 horsepower thanks to the new generation of Mercedes eATS 2.0 engines and a triple-motor configuration.
If these figures are confirmed, the electric C-Class AMG could demonstrate performance that would make many classic V8-powered sports sedans feel uncomfortable. However, the competition will be fierce. BMW is preparing its own M-versions of the future i3 on the Neue Klasse platform, and high-performance versions of the electric Audi A4 can be expected.
Expectations and Prospects
Mercedes is expected to officially present the electric C-Class lineup later this year, while the full-fledged AMG version will be seen a few months later. The transition to electric drive for such a key model as the C-Class, and especially for its sports division, is an important milestone for the brand. It demonstrates how traditional manufacturers understand power and driving pleasure in the new, electric reality. The success of this model will depend not only on pure power figures, but also on how well the engineers have managed to convey the sensations and driving character that AMG cars are loved for. The battle with Bavarian Motors and other German competitors on the electric field is only heating up, promising interesting and technologically advanced products for the end consumer.
