New Mercedes-AMG: Electric Super Sedan with Unique Sound
Mercedes-AMG is preparing to launch a new electric sedan that will compete with the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. The car is expected to receive over 1000 hp thanks to the use of Yasa electric motors. Following the sedan’s launch, AMG also plans to introduce an electric SUV.
The brand is trying to make its electric car appealing to enthusiasts by adding artificial sound inspired by traditional internal combustion engines and simulating gear shifts. This decision has sparked mixed reactions, but AMG is confident that its new product will be unique.
Technical Features and Design
The car is already undergoing testing, and its official presentation is scheduled for this year. Although AMG is somewhat late entering the electric sedan market, it will still beat BMW and Audi, which are only preparing their counterparts.
The 2022 concept gives an idea of the future model’s design, but now the first data about the sound has emerged. A teaser shows the car accelerating with simulated gear shifts and a sound similar to a V8. While this may not appeal to everyone, the engineering work is impressive.
“It doesn’t sound bad, but many believe that electric cars should remain quiet, not copy the sounds of internal combustion engines.”
Prospects for the AMG Electric Lineup
Despite the controversy over the sound, the new sedan’s performance is beyond doubt. It may receive up to three axial flux electric motors, each producing about 480 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This will allow the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 2.5 seconds, competing with the Taycan Turbo S and RS e-tron GT Performance.
Mercedes-AMG is betting that its electric models will retain their sporting character while remaining comfortable for daily use. This could become a key advantage in the fight for customers seeking a combination of dynamics and practicality. Given the rapid development of the electric vehicle market, this approach could prove to be a successful strategic move.
