Mercedes-Benz Unveils Extended Electric GLC Version for China
Mercedes-Benz is actively expanding its electric lineup in the Chinese market. Less than half a year after the European premiere of the new GLC with EQ Technology, the first images of a version with an extended wheelbase, created specifically for the PRC, have appeared.
The model, which will be released under the name GLC 350 L, received a wheelbase length of 3027 mm, which is 55 mm (or approximately 2.1 inches) more than in Western versions. This increase can significantly improve space for passengers in the rear seat row.
Key features of the new model include:
Exterior and Technical Details
Visually, the extended version of the GLC EQ is almost indistinguishable from the standard one. The most noticeable change is the longer rear doors, and the only clear indicator of the additional length is a small letter ‘L’ on the tailgate. The SUV’s design remains elegant, although the massive illuminated front grille continues to spark debate.
Without a direct comparison, the GLC EQ with the extended wheelbase looks almost the same as the standard version.

Data regarding the exact battery capacity for the Chinese version has not yet been confirmed. Globally, the GLC EQ is equipped with a 94 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a range of up to 443 miles. It is likely that the Chinese model will receive a similar setup, but according to local, more liberal testing standards, official figures may exceed the 500-mile mark on a single charge.
Competitive Pressure and Expectations
According to Chinese regulatory authorities, the GLC 350 L will have all-wheel drive. For comparison, the only European version announced so far, the GLC 400 EQ, offers a combined power of 483 hp.
The success of the GLC EQ in the Chinese market is of strategic importance for Mercedes-Benz. Competition from local electric vehicle manufacturers is intensifying. In 2024, the German automaker recorded a 7% drop in sales in China. The trend is expected to continue into 2025, so hopes are pinned on the GLC EQ as a model capable of helping to turn the situation around.
The release of a specially adapted, extended version for China underscores how important this market is for global auto giants. This is not just a mechanical extension of the base, but a strategic step aimed at satisfying the specific preferences of local consumers, who often prefer more rear-seat space. The conditions of fierce competition are forcing European manufacturers not only to localize production but also to deeply adapt products, making the Chinese market a unique field for innovation and marketing strategies.
