Mercedes reveals details of the new electric GLC
There are two months left until the premiere of the electric GLC at the auto show in Munich, and Mercedes is gradually revealing details of the new product. The company’s CEO, Ola Källenius, tested a camouflaged prototype and shared the key characteristics of the model.
The first version will be called the GLC 400 4Matic with EQ technology. The car will be able to recover up to 260 km of range in 10 minutes thanks to support for fast charging with a power of over 320 kW.
Technological features
The use of an 800-volt architecture allows connection to more common 400-volt stations thanks to a special converter. Although such a capability was initially absent in the new CLA, engineers have already solved this problem.
“This is a technological interpretation of the classic Mercedes style,” says Källenius about the grille design.
Practical advantages
The wheelbase of the electric version is 80 mm longer than the conventional GLC, improving passenger space. The trunk offers 570 liters in the standard configuration and up to 1,740 liters with the seats folded. The additional “frunk” contains 128 liters of useful volume.
Air suspension and rear-wheel steering will be available as an option in the Agility & Comfort package. These solutions are already used in the electric Porsche Macan, which promises interesting competition between the two models.
The declared maximum towing weight is 2,400 kg – 400 kg more than that of the German competitor. Although the exact acceleration characteristics are not disclosed, hints from the company’s management suggest a 0-100 km/h time of less than 4 seconds.
The premiere will fully reveal all the details in September, but it is already clear that Mercedes is betting on a combination of classic heritage and cutting-edge technology. The versatility of the model is particularly impressive – from fast charging to high towing capacity, making it one of the most practical electric crossovers in its class.
