Mercedes-Benz Updates GLE and GLS Models
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled updated versions of the GLE, GLE Coupe, GLE 53 Hybrid crossovers and the full-size GLS SUV. The manufacturer calls this update significant, as the GLE model received about 3,000 new or redesigned components.
Exterior Changes and Light Signatures
The changes are noticeable from the front: the cars have received a new front end with a larger radiator grille, which now features an illuminated central star logo, as well as an optional light surround. These are complemented by headlights with a star-shaped LED light signature and new air intakes, the decorative trim of which is also adorned with stars.
The side silhouette reveals the crossover’s age, but Mercedes attempted to refresh the design with new mirrors and alloy wheels. At the rear, narrower tail lights with a three-dimensional star graphic are installed, combined with a new black panel and a chrome trim element.
Updated Interior with Three Screens
Some of the most important changes occurred inside. The driver now gets the MBUX Superscreen system as standard, consisting of three 12.3-inch displays. This change required a complete redesign of the dashboard, including new air vents.
They are paired with a modern multifunction steering wheel, updated upholstery, and three new trim options. The latter are known as Natural Grain Dark Brown Birch Wood, Natural Grain Brown Walnut Wood, and Light Flowing Lines Polished Aluminum.
A new Mercedes-Benz operating system and the MBUX virtual assistant with artificial intelligence elements have also been introduced. Buyers have access to a new 710-watt Burmester 3D Surround Sound audio system with 15 speakers, including two new 3D speakers in the roof.

New Powertrains, Including a V8
In the US market, the GLE will be offered with four different powertrains. Among them are an upgraded turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 hp, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 375 hp, as well as an all-new 4.0-liter V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft and twin-turbocharging, delivering 530 hp.
A new plug-in hybrid, the GLE 500e 4MATIC, has also been introduced, combining a 3.0-liter inline engine with an electric motor and a battery. According to the manufacturer, the all-electric range under the WLTP cycle is 66 miles (106 km).
The GLE Coupe model will have fewer engine options, limited to only the 375-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. The hybrid GLE 53 versions received “further development” of the same engine paired with a battery and electric motor, providing a combined output of 577 hp. Both hybrid models (SUV and coupe) accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes using a 60 kW DC fast charger.
The full-size GLS will be offered with either a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six or the new twin-turbo V8. A high-performance GLS 63 version is expected to appear later.

Enhanced Driver Assistance Systems
The updated model lineup will also receive the Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system MB.Drive Assist Pro. It debuted on the CLA model and is notable for allowing hands-free navigation in urban conditions. Previous reports indicate the service may cost $3,950 for a three-year subscription, or the company may offer a monthly plan.
This update underscores Mercedes-Benz’s focus on enhanced cabin digitization and personalization for buyers. The emphasis on light signatures and stars has become the brand’s visual hallmark, while the introduction of a new powerful V8 and improved hybrid systems shows a desire to combine traditional values with future technologies. The implementation of a subscription model for accessing the full functionality of driver assistance systems reflects a general trend in the automotive industry, where software is becoming a key element of a car’s value and user experience.
