Mercedes Updates the Exterior of the CLE Model

Mercedes-Benz has already begun road testing the updated version of the CLE coupe, despite the model being presented just two and a half years ago. A camouflaged prototype was recently spotted during testing on European roads.

Exterior Changes and Design

The exterior update is expected to follow in the footsteps of the facelifted C-Class. The most noticeable new feature will be the front headlights, integrated with a star pattern, indicating a departure from the overly restrained design. Despite the camouflage, a new front bumper and a modified radiator grille can also be discerned.

The grille appears taller than on the current model, aligning with the brand’s latest trend towards more massive and expressive grilles.

The rear of the car is also likely to undergo changes, including new lighting and an updated rear bumper, although these elements remain unchanged on the prototype.

Interior and Technology Updates

Although the prototype’s interior remained hidden, certain updates are expected. The car may receive the familiar 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch multimedia system.

The latter will likely run on the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System, which recently debuted in the CLA model. This system is essentially the fourth generation of MBUX and relies heavily on artificial intelligence.

A key new feature will be the MBUX virtual assistant, described as a “living avatar” in the shape of the Mercedes star.

Powertrain Options

The engine lineup will most likely remain familiar but may receive some refinements. The base model offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 hp.

For those seeking more power, the CLE 450 variant with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 375 hp and the high-performance CLE 53 with 443 hp are available, accelerating the car to 60 mph in approximately 4 seconds.

Engine and dynamic characteristics of the Mercedes-AMG CLE

The quick start of work on the CLE update may indicate Mercedes-Benz’s desire to maintain high competitiveness in the coupe and convertible segment, where new models are constantly appearing. The emphasis on technology, particularly artificial intelligence in the interface, has become one of the main trends in recent years, and the CLE seems to fully support it. The question remains whether the facelift will also bring more efficient hybrid variants, as other manufacturers are increasingly developing this direction in similar models.
