Mercedes Informs Nearly a Hundred Drivers That Their Electric Vehicles Emit Incorrect Sounds

Mercedes Announces Recall Due to Sound and Headlight Issues

Despite the premium status of Mercedes cars, they are also subject to general safety rules. One of the requirements for hybrids and electric vehicles is the mandatory emission of a sound signal at low speeds to warn pedestrians. However, Mercedes has encountered problems with complying with these norms.

The company is recalling 93 electric vehicles, including EQE SUV, EQE, EQS SUV, and EQS models, as well as one S580e 4Matic plug-in hybrid. The reason is the non-compliance of the reverse sound with the requirements for a single standard for vehicles of the same model year. Even if the sound is present and loud enough, it must be the same for all vehicles within the same series.

Section 5.5 of FMVSS 141 requires that vehicles within the same make, model, model year, body type, and trim level provide the same pedestrian alert.

Headlight Problems

Separately, Mercedes reported a recall of 127 GLC 2023 vehicles due to possible headlight issues. It was discovered that some models are missing a protective cap on the headlight adjustment screw. This could lead to incorrect light adjustment, which does not meet safety standards.

Similar cases have occurred before – in 2022, Lamborghini also recalled cars due to an analogous problem. Fortunately, in the case of Mercedes, the number of affected vehicles is significantly smaller.

These events highlight how important technical details are, especially when it comes to safety. Even seemingly minor flaws can lead to serious consequences, which is why manufacturers are forced to respond to such situations promptly. At the same time, this demonstrates the effectiveness of the quality control system, which allows for detecting problems before they become a threat to drivers and pedestrians.
