The End of the Mercedes EQB Electric Crossover Era
Mercedes-Benz has officially discontinued production of the EQB electric crossover, which started in the US from $53,050. It is expected to be replaced by an updated version of the GLB with EQ technologies. The future model will inherit many common features with the new CLA.
Sales Decline and Official Confirmation
Mercedes EQB sales in the US fell by 36% last year, to just 8,885 units. This figure was even lower than the EQE model range, which sold 11,660 vehicles. A Mercedes representative stated in a comment to InsideEVs:
The EQB has reached the end of its planned life cycle and will no longer be offered in the US and Canada after the 2025 model year.
Electrification Prospects and New Models
Despite the discontinuation of the EQB, the brand emphasized its commitment to electrification. The company noted that the largest product offensive in the brand’s history is just around the corner. The next generation of the GLA and GLB, which is already being tested on the roads, will borrow numerous solutions from the new CLA, scheduled to appear in the US by the end of this year.
EQB Technical Specifications and Variants
The base EQB 250+ model was equipped with a front electric motor producing 188 hp and 385 Nm of torque, as well as a 70.5 kWh battery providing a range of 402 km. The EQB 300 4MATIC version for $57,200 featured all-wheel drive with a total output of 225 hp, but the range was reduced to 330 km. The most powerful EQB 350 4MATIC variant developed 288 hp with a range of 332 km.
The electric vehicle market continues to change rapidly, and Mercedes’ decision regarding the EQB reflects the general trend of updating the model range. The transition to next-generation platforms will allow the company to offer customers more efficient and technologically advanced solutions, which is particularly relevant in the context of growing competition among electric vehicle manufacturers.
