Mercedes Should Have Created This GLS Model Long Ago

Concept Cars and Reality

Concept cars often lean towards fantasy, resembling props from science fiction films rather than vehicles for real roads. However, Mercedes-Benz has successfully combined modernity and retro in its new Vision Iconic concept.

Influence on Future Models

There are no official statements yet about whether this concept will ever become a production car, but it could influence future models, such as the S-Class coupe gran turismo.

Mercedes GLS Update

Another model that would benefit from concept design is the GLS, which is starting to feel outdated. The GLS has been in production since 2019, and in 2023 it underwent a facelift. Another update is expected next year, although the changes are likely to be minor.

Renders by Sugar Design

Renders by Sugar Design, which previously applied a similar creative approach to the S-Class sedan, depict the GLS in a future generation that combines familiar and updated features. This concept is worthy of attention from Mercedes designers.

Modern Look

Like the Vision Iconic, this interpretation of the GLS features a large LED radiator grille and small headlights with star-shaped daytime running lights. The body lines are smoother, giving it a softer look while simultaneously emphasizing luxury.

In the Maybach version, it looks almost flawless, with a two-tone red and silver paint that perfectly suits its status.

Comparison with Mazda CX-90

Although the combination of sharp headlights, a large grille, and a lower bumper somewhat resembles the Mazda CX-90, the overall appearance remains attractive.

Rear End and Future

The rear of the SUV is equipped with simple LED lights, an illuminated Mercedes logo, and a chrome insert on the bumper. Since the current GLS will soon be updated for the second time, a complete model update is not expected for at least three to four years.

If Mercedes designers can create an SUV that looks as good as this render, then the wait is definitely worth it.

Sugar Design’s illustrations demonstrate how traditional Mercedes design can be combined with innovation, making them a valuable source of inspiration for the automaker. Such concepts not only raise customer expectations but also stimulate the development of the automotive industry as a whole.
