Mercedes 190E by HWA Aims for Victory in the World’s Most Prestigious Races

HWA Evo Prepares for Racing at the Nürburgring

HWA Evo, inspired by the legendary Mercedes 190, is preparing for a serious test on the track. The company has officially announced the participation of two cars in the prestigious 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in 2026. The event was announced during the current N24, where two test models were shown to the public in racing livery.

At the wheel of the demonstration cars will be motorsport veterans Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig, who once drove the original Evo II in the 1990s. Asch led his Evo II to victory in a DTM round in 1992, helping Mercedes secure the championship title.

Technical Aspects and Historical Context

Over the next year, the team will work on refining the racing versions of the Evo, the road version of which costs 776,000 euros. Although HWA does not expect an absolute victory due to the dominance of GT3 cars, they have real chances in the SP-X class.

“Racing is in our DNA, and therefore also in the DNA of the HWA EVO,” stated HWA CEO Martin Marx.

The company has deep ties with Mercedes’ motorsport history, as its founder, Hans Werner Aufrecht, was involved in the creation of AMG. After selling AMG to Mercedes in 1998, he founded HWA, which continued to work with racing programs.

Of the 100 planned road Evos, most have already been sold. The cars are equipped with a biturbo V6 producing up to 493 hp. In the future, HWA plans to introduce a new model inspired by the 1990s Mercedes but with a V8, and by the end of the decade, its own hypercar.

This project demonstrates how modern technology combines with classic design and racing heritage. Participation at the Nürburgring will be an important step for HWA in confirming their engineering prowess and sporting ambitions.
