Auto mechanic John Ackerman from South Africa completed an incredible project. In his workshop, he recreated the famous Sauber-Mercedes C9 sports prototype.
This Mercedes sports car dominated racing tracks in the late ’80s and even won the 24-hour race at Le Mans in 1989. By the way, it was in this car that young Michael Schumacher began his professional career.
Work on the project lasted 8 years.
The replica meticulously recreates the Mercedes C9 and, unlike the original, can be driven on public roads. Indeed, the Mercedes copy is not as powerful as the real C9. It is equipped with a 3.2-liter turbocharged V6 producing 322 hp. Nevertheless, the car weighs only 1000 kg and can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h.
Incidentally, this is not the first such project.
Previously, in Poland, they similarly recreated the legendary McLaren F1 supercar.
