Stellantis’ rugged off-roader could become a competitor to the affordable Dacia

Opel presents the Frontera Gravel concept – an off-road version of the family SUV

Design and Features

The Opel Frontera Gravel stands out with an aggressive design featuring Desert Stone matte paint and black accents. The concept is equipped with additional LED lighting, a winch, a roof rack, and BFGoodrich off-road tires on 16-inch Borbet wheels. Orange accents on the body and interior emphasize the car’s sporty character.

The interior features microfiber seats with orange stitching and a black headliner. Despite its rugged exterior, the car retains the front-wheel drive of the base model.

Technical Specifications

The electric version of the Frontera is powered by a 154 hp (156 PS) motor and a 54 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 400 km. The manufacturer highlights that the low center of gravity and strong torque allow the vehicle to handle light off-road conditions.

Rebecca Reinermann, Vice President of Marketing at Opel: “With the Frontera Gravel, we pushed boundaries by imagining a bolder, more adventurous version. This concept is designed to test demand for a more rugged Frontera variant in the future.”

The public debut of the concept will take place on May 30 at the XS Carnight event in Austria. While Opel has no plans for an all-wheel-drive version yet, Stellantis’ technology allows for quick adaptation of such a modification, as seen with the Jeep Avenger 4Xe.

This concept reflects the growing demand for SUVs with aggressive styling, even if their actual off-road capabilities are limited. Opel aims to strike a balance between family practicality and an adventure-oriented lifestyle, which is becoming increasingly popular among European buyers.
