Expanding the lineup and testing
Mini is preparing a new version of the Countryman focused on off-road driving. The crossover is currently undergoing final testing in the USA, where it is being tested on challenging trails. According to the manufacturer, the official debut will take place in October 2026.
After long rumors and unofficial tuning packages, the company has finally shown a camouflaged prototype. It was filmed on dirt roads and rocky sections in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The new model will become the most capable off-road version in the model’s history.
Design and additional equipment
The prototype has increased ground clearance and is equipped with black alloy wheels and off-road tires. Unlike the X-Raid or Mini Vagabund concepts, there are no wide wheel arch extensions here, and the bumpers remain standard. The main exterior highlight is a large roof tent, which emphasizes the adventurous character of the vehicle. Mini already offers such tents for other models, so this option came as no surprise.
Engines and rally participation
The manufacturer has not yet disclosed which powertrains the off-road version will receive. Most likely, it will be available with ALL4 all-wheel drive. Currently, this drive is available on the petrol Countryman S, the flagship JCW, and the electric SE ALL4.
After the public presentation in October, the model will take part in the women’s Rebelle Rally 2026. This is a challenging competition covering over 2,500 km of wild terrain without GPS. Participation in such an event will highlight the true off-road potential of the new model.

True to the Mini spirit, it combines capability with character and opens up even more possibilities for unforgettable adventures.”
Thus, Mini is making a bold move into the off-road crossover segment. Despite its compact size, the Countryman receives serious off-road equipment that could appeal to outdoor enthusiasts. If this version goes into production, it will challenge models like the Suzuki Jimny or even some full-size SUVs, offering a more affordable alternative. The market launch in 2026 shows that Mini is not afraid to experiment with the image of its compact SUV.
