Miniature Suzuki off-roader now serves in the police force

Suzuki Jimny in the Australian police fleet

Recently, the police unit from Macquarie (New South Wales) received an unusual vehicle – the compact Suzuki Jimny off-roader. Unlike the usual police BMWs or Volkswagens, this car is not designed for pursuits. Its main task is to facilitate communication between law enforcement officers and local residents.

As government representatives noted, the Jimny was chosen for its “friendly” appearance, which is intended to help residents, especially young people, more easily engage with the police. The vehicle was provided free of charge by Suzuki Australia.

“The police livery, we hope, will be a great conversation starter and help people, especially youth, feel more comfortable when communicating with local law enforcement officers” – stated Superintendent Tracy Chapman.

Technical features of the “police” Jimny

Technically, the Jimny is not impressive: under the hood is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with only 100 hp, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. However, despite its modest characteristics, this model is known for its high off-road capability.

Interestingly, the New South Wales Police is not the first to use non-standard vehicles for community communication. Similar initiatives help form a positive image of law enforcement agencies, especially among the youth audience. The use of the Jimny, which has a cult status among off-road enthusiasts, could prove to be an effective marketing move.
