Large-Scale Nissan Rogue Recall Due to Engine Problems
Nissan has announced a recall of over 643,000 Rogue crossovers due to two serious problems related to the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. This affects models manufactured in 2023-2025.
First Problem: Risk of Engine Failure and Fire
The first recall campaign covers 323,917 vehicles. The problem lies in the overheating of engine oil. When the oil becomes too hot, it loses its protective properties and begins to destroy the engine’s internal components. This can lead to engine seizure, oil leakage, or even fire.
Dealerships will inspect and repair the affected vehicles. The repair will include modifying the engine control unit software, a visual inspection, and a test drive. In cases where metal fragments are found in the oil pan, technicians will install a completely new engine free of charge for the owner.
When oil overheats, it stops behaving like a protective lubricant and starts acting more like liquid sandpaper.
Not the First Instance of Such Problems
This situation is not unique to Nissan. Last year, a similar recall affected nearly half a million Nissan and Infiniti vehicles equipped with 1.5- and 2.0-liter VC turbo engines. At that time, problems arose in Rogue models from 2021-2024, as well as Altima 2019-2020, Infiniti QX50 2019-2022, and Infiniti QX55 2022 models.
Second Problem: Throttle Body Malfunction
Separately, but also related to the same engine, a second recall campaign has been announced. It concerns 318,781 Rogue crossovers from the 2024-2025 model years. This time, the problem lies in the throttle body.
A gear inside the electronic throttle control system can wear out or fail. This can lead to reduced engine power or an unstable response to the accelerator pedal.
To resolve this issue, dealers will reprogram the Engine Control Unit (ECU), inspect the electronic throttle control system, and replace it if necessary.
A dual recall of this scale certainly deals a blow to the Nissan Rogue’s reputation as a reliable family crossover. These events point to systemic reliability issues with modern small-displacement turbocharged engines, which are under high loads to deliver efficiency and power. For owners of the affected vehicles, it is important to promptly contact official dealers for free repairs, as both problems directly impact driving safety. Such incidents may also affect the market value of these models on the used car market in the medium term.
