Mitsubishi Introduces New Square SUV That Could Become More Than Just a Pajero Update

New Mitsubishi Pajero: What Is Known About the Prototype

A recent sighting of a camouflaged Mitsubishi prototype has sparked a new wave of discussion about the future Pajero model. Some experts suggest the new model will receive a platform from the Nissan Patrol, while others believe it will be based on the Triton pickup truck. There is also a third version—it might be the production version of the DST concept, which was developed for Asian markets.

Design and Features

The prototype, photographed during testing, showcases an almost finished design with square outlines, a high riding position, and a vertical radiator grille. The front features LED headlights, while the rear has full-width taillights and a massive skid plate. The overall proportions are reminiscent of classic SUVs but with modern elements.

One source reports that the new model might completely replace the Pajero Sport, dropping the additional index in the name.

Technical Capabilities

The choice of platform will determine the available powertrains. If the car gets the Outlander’s platform, it will likely be equipped with a 302 hp hybrid system. If it uses the Triton’s chassis, the main engine could be a 2.4-liter turbo diesel with 201 hp. The appearance of an all-electric version in the future is also not ruled out.

The production version is expected to debut by the end of 2025, which will allow Mitsubishi to finally reveal all the details about the new model. For now, the company is keeping the information secret, but the tests already show that the Pajero could become a true return of the legendary name.
