The new Mitsubishi Triton Savana off-roader
In Brazil, the Mitsubishi Triton Savana debuted as a limited series – a rugged off-road vehicle created for challenging conditions. It received a number of unique options that enhance its capabilities and distinguish it from other pickups.
Key features of the model
Competition in the pickup market
While Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara remain the focus of attention in the midsize pickup market, Mitsubishi is gradually strengthening its presence in South America. The Triton Savana is a special version focused on extreme operating conditions.
Triton lineup updates
The new generation Triton appeared in 2023, and it was introduced in South America the following year. Within just 12 months, Mitsubishi has already expanded the model range with the Savana version, repeating the strategy of the previous generation, which also received a similar modification in 2023.
What has changed in the new version?
The Savana is based on the top-tier Katana trim, complementing it with a range of visual and functional accessories. Two exclusive body colors are available – Rally Yellow and Forest Green, complemented by stylish decals and matte graphite-colored elements on the grille and protective trim.
According to Mitsubishi representatives, these trims not only improve the appearance but also protect important vehicle components from damage by stones and other obstacles off-road.
Technical improvements
Standard equipment includes stone sills that also serve as side steps, roof rails, and a functional snorkel. The latter increases the water wading depth from the standard 500 mm to 800 mm, making the vehicle more adapted to crossing rivers and streams.
Chassis and design
The Savana features 18-inch black alloy wheels along with off-road tires. The suspension settings remain unchanged compared to the Katana. Interestingly, the previous Savana version had black steel wheels and more aggressive tires, indicating certain changes in the approach to design and functionality.
Engine and transmission
The model is equipped with a two-liter bi-turbo diesel engine that produces 202 hp and 470 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the Super Select II all-wheel drive system, which includes seven driving modes.
Interior and comfort
The interior is almost completely borrowed from the Triton Katana: leather upholstery with red stitching, a 9-inch multimedia system, a 7-inch display between the instrument panels, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and numerous driver assistance systems.
Price and availability
Production is limited to 80 units for the Brazilian market. The starting price is R$349,990, which is approximately R$11,000 higher than the base Katana, considering the additional equipment.
Comparison with the predecessor
Compared to the previous L200 Triton Savana version, the new model looks somewhat more restrained, although it retains all the key features of an off-road vehicle.
Summary and prospects
The Mitsubishi Triton Savana demonstrates how the manufacturer adapts to regional markets by offering specialized versions for off-road enthusiasts. The limited production run and increased price indicate the model’s exclusivity, which may interest brand fans. Given the growing competition in the pickup segment, such initiatives help Mitsubishi maintain its presence and attract attention to the Triton model range.
