Mitsuoka released the first version of the M55 in Japan with a limited set of 250 units. The M55 is based on the Honda Civic and offers two versions: gasoline and hybrid. This car follows the successful model M55 Zero Edition, which sold out like hotcakes in record quick times. Mitsuoka pleases its fans again by releasing a reworked Honda Civic that continues to convey the spirit of a Dodge Challenger but with a greater degree of exclusivity. Inspired by the success of the first M55 Zero Edition model, which quickly flew off the shelves last year, the Japanese company decided to release another 250 units of the M55 1st Edition.
And yes, it still looks like a very confused little cousin of the Challenger. The M55 impressed viewers with its new body design similar to the Dodge Challenger, built on the Honda Civic chassis. Surprisingly, the concept met with great positive response, and Mitsuoka quickly moved to mass production, maintaining the original design and functionality. The Mitsuoka M55 is essentially a Japanese muscle car captivated in a compact hatchback, an identity car on four wheels. The extended front overhang with square headlights, recessed into the bumper, practically screams Dodge Challenger, while the sporty hatch at the rear, with the potential for installing louvers on the rear window, is inspired by the Ford Mustang.
It’s an odd mix, but hey, it has its charm. The original M55 was offered only in a shade of gray, as dull as a Monday morning, but the 1st Edition now offers 10 different color options with such exotic names that you’d probably think you’re looking for a yacht, not a car. Choose from Platinum White Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, Premium Crystal Red Metallic, Seabed Blue Pearl, Skyscraper Gray, Blue Iceland, Old English White, John Mango, Spring Blue, and Papaya Orange Metallic. The interior continues to undergo updates with leather upholstery featuring microscopic perforations and striking contrast stitching. The Honda emblem?
Gone, replaced by the overly important letters M55 Mitsuoka on the steering wheel. If you really want to raise the stakes, you can opt for carbon-look inserts. It’s all very… “I’m a bit different, but not too much.”
