Recently, van-life has gained immense popularity, driven by endless posts of beautiful, carefree millennials who seem to be living the dream, while the rest of us are tied to boring 9 to 5 jobs and envy them.
If it seems to you that your entire world in a DIY-converted Ford Transit is a bit too ‘hobbyist’ for your refined tastes and doesn’t elicit any envy, then perhaps this Motor Coach Riviera 38RB will convince you to hit the road.
Luxury on Wheels
Created by the American company Thor, this class A, the largest among those available on the market, and with its length of 38 feet (11.6 m), it is absolutely huge. Class A is typically built on commercial truck or bus chassis, equipped with enormous diesel engines to carry you and your furniture and appliances – the 38RB has a maximum vehicle weight of 32,000 pounds (14,500 kg).
A Price Tag Worthy of a King (or Queen)
Thor’s website indicates that the price starts at a staggering $367,500, but even at $260,000 for the 2024 model at Leo’s Vacation Center in Maryland, you need to be seriously wealthy to afford it. Nevertheless, this is not the most expensive RV we’ve encountered. That honor should go to a model priced at $1.4 million.
But these versions are even more luxurious than a house you could buy for the same money. This six-person model has three extendable sections to expand the living area, two 68-inch sofas, a king-size bed (with tilt function for video viewing), a combined washer-dryer, and not just one, but two toilets.
There are also two more TVs, including one outside for movie nights, and even a fireplace. The decor is very subdued but likely perfectly suited for the wealthy, older Americans who we believe purchase these things.
A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to stay in something similar when Jaguar invited me and my family to the Festival of Speed, but I didn’t get to drive it myself. Of course, it would undoubtedly be challenging on UK roads and definitely designed for the vast spaces of the US, where it can test its power, without worrying about getting stuck in traffic or accidentally scratching a mailbox.
If the idea of traveling with central heating, a fireplace, and theater sound tempts you (seriously, who wouldn’t want that?), check out the full listing for the Riviera 38RB at Leo’s Vacation Center – you know you want to.
